Fordsburg flashbacks

More moments from last Saturday.

Get up and get out

Two months ago I started jogging (and walking some of the distance) in the early mornings.
The mornings are chilly now as we slide into autumn. The mist hangs over the streams and in the valleys waiting for the sun that makes it melt like candy floss in a child's mouth.
The sun rises behind some clouds or bursts into a clean, crisp sky. Pink, orange, yellow, white.
Dew and fresh rain cling to the plants and trees, and the grass crackles as the weight of my foot crushes it. Autumn leaves have gathered into groups on the pavement.
As I get to the top of the hill the city is revealed in the morning light. Ponte, the Hillbrow tower and Sandton City pop up like mushrooms, they appear in single file as though all along the same street.
You can pinpoint the informal settlements from the smoke that rises over the trees. Every where there is movement and as time moves ever forward you can sense the impatient energy of people already late for work.
I enjoy every morning. A great way to start a day.

A roar in a parcel

A friend made this lion from a coconut. I think it's gorgeous. If you're wondering why the lion looks so angry it's because he travelled in a parcel with a piece of biltong that was vacuum-wrapped and so he couldn't eat it ;-)
